Educational institutions, from pre-school through high school, have an obligation not just to teach their students, but to keep them safe from harm, including physical and sexual abuse, while they are on school grounds or engaged in school-related activities.
One way this is accomplished is through well-crafted and up-to-date policies and procedures on child safety, such as mandated reporting by employees of abuse by caretakers, student abuse by staff members, and bullying.
The NYSPCC, with its wealth of clinical and legal expertise in the area of child protection and child safety, can do a top-to-bottom review of existing policies and procedures and make best practice recommendations for incorporation into the schools existing policy manual. The NYSPCC can also work in concert with the school’s legal counsel in this process.
