Our 137 Year Commitment to the Safety
and Well Being of Children
Established in 1875, The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was the first child protection agency in the world. Throughout its distinguished history, The NYSPCC has sought to develop and implement innovative mental health, legal and educational programs that protect children from harm and ensure their healthy development. A booklet commemorating The NYSPCC's 125th anniversary in 2000 provides a thorough overview of The NYSPCC's history and accomplishments and is available as a PDF document. An account of The NYSPCC's founding and early history is also provided through the links below.
